Whenever your skin comes into contact with something that it is sensitive to you will develop what is known as a skin allergy.î You may also develop a skin allergy whenever you eat food or breathe in proteins that do not agree with your system.

The most common symptoms of skin allergies include:

1. Redness
2. Swelling
3. Blistering
4. Itching
5. Hives
6. Rashes

The most common types of things that cause skin allergies include:
1. Poison Ivy
2. Poison Oak
3. Poison Sumac
4. Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis)

Eczema

Eczema is especially common in infants and children. It is very difficult to treat but will usually go away on its own by the time a person reaches the age of 25-years-old. However, there are some people who do suffer from this throughout their entire life.

Eczema is most commonly triggered by:
Allergies, emotional stress or high levels of immunoglobulin E (lgE), which is the major allergy antibody

The symptoms of eczema usually consist of an itchy rash that begins as small white pimples with red centers. Whenever it is itched it will produce fluid, leading it to spread over a wider area. This rash will usually appear on:

1.The head
2. The outside surfaces of the arms and legs
3. The inner forearm
4. Behind the knees
5. In the crease of the elbow
6. On the back of the knees, ankles and wrists
7. On the face
8. On the neck
9. On the chest
10. On the palms of the hands
11. On the soles of the feet

There are a variety of treatments for eczema, including:

1. Bathing in warm, not hot, water for between three to five minutes
2. Using a soap substitute
3. Pat, not rub, the skin dry
4. After bathing, make sure to promptly apply moisturizer in order to keep the skin hydrated
5. Trim your fingernails in order to keep from scratching
6. Wear cotton socks or gloves at night to prevent scratching while asleep
7. Stay in the air conditioning during hot weather so you do not sweat and become itchy
8. Use a humidifier during the winter to keep your skin from drying out
9. Do not wear or sleep on wool, polyester, wrinkle-resistant, flame-resistant or scratchy fabrics
10. Wash bedding in hot water
11. Do not use rugs
12. Avoid stuffed furniture and stuffed toys
13. Try not to use curtains if at all possible
